Kerhonkson: Vernooy Kill Falls

Get out there and embark on this 3.6 mile easy level hike in beautiful Kerhonkson, New York. The hike should take you about three hours as you ascend down Cherrytown mountain. At the bottom you'll find a series of waterfalls and an old mill. Also if the weather allows, there’s a fun swimming hole that you can cool off and splash around in. Make sure to stay within the red markers of the trail and take in the beauty of all of the views on this scenic hike. Kelly Hollow Trail

If you’re looking for a moderate/easy level hike then the Kelly Hollow Trail in Hardenburgh, New York is perfect for you! Hardenburgh is located a little over an hour from New Paltz and is truly a stunning area. There is a short loop and a long loop so it’s perfect for any level hiker. Make sure to park on Mill Brook Road and embark on your 1.5-3 hour hike past a beaver pond and take in the amazing views. After your 1.5-3 hour hike, depending on the route you take, head on down to the Crazy River Cafe for lunch but make sure to start your day early because they close at 3pm!

Alder Lake Loop Trail in Hardenburgh, NY — just over an hour from New Paltz

Continuing on with Hardeburgh, New York, if the Kelly Hollow Trail is just a little bit too difficult for you, don’t fret! Drive over to Alder Creek Road, park your car, and get ready for an easy 1.5 hour hike that is sure to be packed with tons of beautiful wildlife sightings! This hike is located around Alder Lake and is about 1.6 miles round trip. Make sure to keep your eye out for eagles, osprey and also red-winged blackbirds! Main Street Farm is a great place to grab lunch after you’re done with your hike! 

Stony Kill Falls

Looking for another easy level hike? I got you! In Kerhonkson, New York at the amazing Stony Kill Falls you'll find a 1.7 mile hike that leads you to a beautiful 87 foot waterfall at the end! Park on Shaft 2A road and prepare yourself for a quick and fun 1-1.5 hour hike. If you work up a sweat during the hike, don’t worry about it! There is a pool at the end that visitors can take a dip and cool off in. If all that hiking makes your stomach growl, take a visit to Roughcut Brewing Co. and experience their menu of inventive American bites and housemade beers. (if you’re over 21 of course). 

Peter’s Kill, Gardiner

If you’re an expert level hiker and those hikes seem too easy for you, try out the hike to Peter’s Kill in Gardiner, New York. This 6.5 mile difficult level hike can be accessed from Minnewaska State Park. Make sure to park at the Coxing Creek parking area for easy access to the trail. The beautiful views and stunning waterfall make embarking on this challenging hike all worth it in the end. After your hike, stop by Cafe Mio on Route 44 and feast on anything from eggs sandwiches to burgers. Their wait staff is extremely friendly and they have great cocktail, beer, and wine options.

Sky Top, New Paltz

Lastly and quite possibly one of the most beautiful hikes is Sky Top trail in New Paltz, New York. This hike is great for all skill levels. Get ready for a 4 mile like hike along the lake in whatever weather conditions that you can endure. There is lodging near the trail as well as snowshoeing options and a warming hit if the weather gets too chilly for you to bear! The Catskill mountains of course make for a beautiful view here in the Mohonk Preserve. Make sure to park at the intersection of Gatehouse and Mohonk private Road on the small shoulder. Once you get to the top you can enjoy the cool tower while sitting on the several benches and in the gazebos. Pack a lunch and enjoy it here or you can opt to go to the Promised Land Inn to munch on their delicious burgers and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
