FASHION BOOKS FOR YOUR COFFEE TABLE

As a lover of coffee & books, naturally we never pass up an opportunity for new coffee books. Excitingly enough there are plenty of fashion books that were recently published for us to comb through & collect! Here are the ones we are particularly excited to read..

CAMP: Notes on Fashion by Andrew Bolton

“Drawing from Susan Sontag’s seminal essay, this striking volume explores the meaning of camp and its expression in fashion from its origins to today Although an elusive concept, “camp” can be found in most forms of artistic expression, revealing itself through an aesthetic of deliberate stylization. Fashion is one of the most overt and enduring conduits of the camp aesthetic. As a site for the playful dynamics between high art and popular culture, fashion both embraces and expresses such camp modes of enactment as irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration.”

We’re MAJOR fans of last year’s Met Gala Camp Theme so of course this book immediately caught our eye.

Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes

“An investigation into the damage wrought by the colossal clothing industry and the grassroots, high-tech, international movement fighting to reform it

What should I wear? It’s one of the fundamental questions we ask ourselves every day. More than ever, we are told it should be something new. Today, the clothing industry churns out 80 billion garments a year and employs every sixth person on Earth. Historically, the apparel trade has exploited labor, the environment, and intellectual property—and in the last three decades, with the simultaneous unfurling of fast fashion, globalization, and the tech revolution, those abuses have multiplied exponentially, primarily out of view. We are in dire need of an entirely new human-scale model. Bestselling journalist Dana Thomas has traveled the globe to discover the visionary designers and companies who are propelling the industry toward that more positive future by reclaiming traditional craft and launching cutting-edge sustainable technologies to produce better fashion.”

At OONYC we’re big advocates of sustainable fashion. We’re always looking for more ways to reduce the negative imprint clothing has on the planet. We’re excited to have this on our coffee table for guests to take a little piece of valuable information and hopefully spark a bigger conversation & change!

Hunks & Heroes: Four Decades of Fashion at GQ

“A celebration of men's style and how it's evolved--from the ever stylish GQ creative director at large”--Jim Moore.

“GQ is revered globally as the ultimate style guide for modern men, and Hunks and Heroes is an epic journey into the world of men's style as told and edited by Jim Moore. He began his career at GQ as an intern in 1979 and has since played a pivotal role in reshaping men's fashion during his nearly forty-year tenure at the magazine. From discovering new designers, distilling the latest men's trends, and extolling fashion advice and critiques in his popular online video series GQ Rules, to Channing Tatum wearing a "JIM F&%#ING MOORE" T-shirt, Moore's influence and impact on men's style is unequivocal.

In these pages, Moore takes us through forty years of men's fashion: featuring the most iconic GQ fashion looks, the magazine's unforgettable covers and editorial shoots, essential styling tips like how to dress up denim or style a khaki suit, insights on developing your own personal style, and stories showcasing Moore's knack at reworking the look of everyday men the magazine literally pulled off the street. This volume features 250 of Moore's iconic men's fashion photographs produced with internationally renowned image makers like Peggy Sirota, Craig McDean, and Inez & Vinoodh, and includes seminal GQ images of cultural icons such as celebrities, athletes, and politicians. This is the must-have style bible for all readers interested in men's fashion, style, culture, and celebrity.”

Although we are a team of dope women, we have an appreciation for mens fashion & at the forefront is GQ. We admire their innate ability to choose interviewees that best reflect style & culture at that moment (Of course reading about cute guys never hurt).

Living with Coco Chanel: The homes and landscapes that shaped the designer

Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was one of the most influential and ground-breaking fashion designers of the twentieth century. This beautifully illustrated biography tells her remarkable story in a unique and accessible way, examining how the homes and landscapes of her life relate to her work.

From her childhood at the convent at Aubazine to her boutique and apartment on Rue Cambon in Paris and her villa, La Pausa, on the French Riveria, Chanel’s style was inspired and influenced by her environment. Emerging at a time that allowed women to be more independent, she designed clothes that let them be free.

As she found fame, love and success, she used the memories of her past, and the way that she lived, to forge her own independence.

Featuring designs, drawings, archive imagery and contemporary photography, Living with Coco Chanel provides a fascinating insight into Chanel’s life, work and legacy

Because one can never own too many Coco Chanel books. What’s exciting about this one is the examination of her physical environment & how it correlated to her work. As fans of Interior Design we hope the archive images include her homes!
